October 26, 2018 – ITEN earlier this year commissioned Peters Marketing Research to conduct an online survey seeking to understand and plan for St. Louis’ future technology jobs and skills needs. More than 300 technology hiring managers and executives completed the survey, providing information on their biggest needs, sources of recruitment and expected growth in the upcoming years.
The Technology Workforce and Skills Study will aim to serve as a blueprint for cultivating the necessary talent, and to spearhead a region-wide conversation about how St. Louis can fill its tech needs.
Programmers and developers rank as the toughest positions for which employers struggle to find skilled talent, according to ITEN’s findings. Engineers, architects and analysts represent the second tier of needed technology positions. These needs are forcing tech companies to invest in training of existing employees for promotion, according to ITEN’s study. Fifty-seven percent of respondents ranked in-house promotion as their No. 1 or No. 2 recruiting source.
