Mentor Spotlight
Sultan Meghji
Originally from the Midwest, I've traveled and lived in many places in the US and Europe. Recently, I've made St. Louis my adopted hometown and joined a local IT company, Appistry (more on that in a moment). I'm an alumni of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, including a stint at NCSA. In my work career, I've spent time in academia (at UIUC and Northwestern), in financial services (ABN AMRO and American Express), biotech (Monsanto), consulting (Various) and in the startup world. I've held a number of Chief Architecture, CIO and CTO roles in both small startups as well as Fortune 500 companies. Along the way, I've made a career of doing two things: 1) Bringing innovative technologies to market and 2) Turning around organizations that aren't being as successful as they could be. My goal is to live at the intersection of good business and better technology.
My work as an ITEN mentor is currently focused on the Mock Angel and the Technology & Architecture programs. With the Mock Angel program I get to apply the business experience I have to startups, refining their message, pitch and value proposition. With Technology & Architecture I get to apply my 20 years of technology experience to helping build the best solutions possible. Growing up in the industry as I did, finding mentors was incredibly difficult and being that resource to the startup community here in St. Louis is tremendously rewarding. I've also recently accepted to join the new ITEN Mentor Board as an advisor for the continuing development of ITEN.
Appistry, where I now work, is a fantastic opportunity to apply my desire to build up IT in St. Louis. We are creating specific solutions on top of the advanced Appistry platform, driving towards faster and cleaner paths to market. Currently we are focusing on adding Life Sciences solutions to our existing solutions sets in Defense, Intelligence, Logistics and Financial Services. Our early results in life sciences around accelerating the analysis of genomic data are incredible. We are applying high performance computing, cloud computing and analytics in an integrated solution unlike anything else in the market today.
